Birte is a physiotherapy student on an internship in Tanga, Tanzania. She has completed the first year of physiotherapy education at Oslo Nye Høyskole, before traveling with her class to the Netherlands at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. She chose to do the last part of her internship in Tanzania and lives with other students at the Tanga International Competence Center TICC in small bungalows. What do you do in the internship When I am in practice, we take a car or bus to the place where we moible number data will work. I am in practice at Harriet s Home , which is a home where children with Cerebral Palsy gather with their mothers. Here I have tasks such as passing on knowledge about CP to  so that the children eventually have the strength to crawl and walk etc. I am also at the Mental Health centre. Usually, those with mental illness are stigmatized and excluded from family and society.



The aim here has been to get better function, do everyday activities and more. The last place I work is at the Elderly Home , which is a home for elderly people who cannot fend for themselves, and who have either lost their family or worked so long away from their family that they have lost contact with their family. They are very grateful that students come here and help them. As a physiotherapist, I also map function, create training plans with long term and short term goals and follow this up.
